The regular APR is 13.24% (Variable)*, based on your creditworthiness. The card also gives a nice little introductory rate of 6 months on purchases*. Often we don’t see business cards offering these types of intro rates, so this is helpful if you need extra time on a large purchase.

Earning Rewards

The card comes packed full with a nice bonus offer. The card gives 15,000 bonus ThankYou(R) points after you make $3000 in purchases within 3 months of card membership. That breaks down to just spending $1,000 per month and that’s enough to get you $150 in gift cards.

In addition, you will also earn 3 ThankYou(R) points for every dollar spent on eligible purchases in rotating business categories. We don’t see many business cards that function with rotating categories. Let’s take a look at what the categories are:

  • January-March: Office supply merchants, advertising services and professional services
  • April-June: Computer equipment merchants, software merchants and telecommunications merchants
  • July-September: Airlines, hotels and car rental merchants
  • October-December: Restaurants and entertainment


On everything outside the rotating categories you earn 1 point per $1 you spend. There are no limits on the amount you can earn and your points don’t expire. You can see how this could add up to a nice savings for a business.

Review of Quizzle.com

The good news and the bad news is that credit monitoring sites are not uncommon these days. Sorting through them to find the good ones is a different matter. Quizzle.com certainly is one of the good ones, but let’s make sure we know exactly what they offer.


Signing up is easy. No social security number or credit card information is required. The site is easy to navigate. You will be asked during the sign up process if you want to upgrade to one of three monthly monitoring services including Monthly Monitoring @ $5 month, Level 1 Package @ $15 monthly, or Level 1 Package plus 1 million dollar coverage for identity theft @ $25 monthly. If you are not interested just click “no thanks” and continue for the free info. Unfortunately these offers come up every time you sign in – a tad annoying.

Free Credit Score and Report

Once you set up your account you will have access to your Experian Credit Score and complete Experian credit report. Just so you know, the Experian Credit Score is a based on a different formula than a FICO score. They are not trying to trick you into believing it’s the same. There is a debate these days as to whether the FICO is the only true credit score, but the reality is they are both accurate – just different. “Educational credit score” is another term used for this formula. Bottom line, knowing either score can help you understand and improve it.

For our purposes we can say that the score and the report are a great way to determine the health of your credit and the accuracy of the information within the report. The credit report is detailed and contains the following information:

  • An Account Summary
  • A List of Open Accounts
  • Closed Accounts
  • Negative Accounts
  • Credit Inquiries
  • Public Records – like owed child support and liens on your property to name a few

Valuable Guidance

Budgeting help is available if you are willing to take the time to enter your loan information (no specific account numbers), income, insurance, utilities, etc. Based on this information, you will get tips on how to budget your ongoing finances. Like I said, upgraded monitoring and improvement services are available but even without the extras bells and whistles; there is good practical information here – for free.

Quizzle will encourage you to establish a rainy day fund. This is important in any long term financial planning. Six months of your net income is their proposed goal. It actually calculates the exact amount you need in your rainy day account based on your annual income.

Great information is also available for anyone in the market for a new home. They have a nifty calculator, mortgage recommendations and a wealth of information regarding neighborhoods of interest. Of course there are mortgage offers galore.

Quizzle.com will provide your Experian credit score, a detailed Experian credit report, budgeting tips, mortgage tips, and a glimpse at what’s lurking behind the curtain. It’s a free peak and more – and I do mean FREE.

Discover More Rotating Categories for Spring

It’s time to take a look at the 5% rotating categories for the Discover More cards. Each quarter the categories change so it’s worth your while to know what type of spending that will get you the most back. Let’s take a quick look at the current categories for this quarter:

  • Earn 5% Cashback Bonus on up to $1,500 in purchases April through June at Restaurants and Movies.
  • Earn 5% Cashback Bonus on up to $300 in purchases in May at Grocery Stores.

In order to be eligible for the 5% cash back offer you MUST register each quarter. You can do so by logging into your online account. Once the categories change you have to register again.

5% Cash Back

April through June you will get 5% back on your restaurant and movie purchases. Remember that you only get the 5% back on up to $1,500 in purchases, but that comes to $75 in bonus cash. Starting in May, you will also earn 5% back on your grocery purchases on up to $300.

1% Cash Back

Keep in mind you always earn 1% cash back on all your other purchase. That means any purchases that fall outside the 5% categories or purchases that exceed the amount you can earn in the 5% categories will still net you 1% cash back.

Amex for iPad® Review

Many banks and credit card companies are now offering mobile apps for their customers. Apps make managing your account easy, convenient and even kinda fun. I always manage my Capital One account right from my iPhone app. It allows me to quickly log in and pay my bill or view my transaction history to make sure everything is correct. It’s so nice having an app to access my account that I wish all my credit cards had apps.

Lucky for American Express cardholders there’s an iPhone and iPad app that you can use to manage your accounts. This article will cover all the features of the iPad app so you can see if it’s right for you. It’s completely free so go ahead and try it out. Also, check out the screen shots below so you can get an idea of how the app works.

Amex for iPad® is available for Consumer Cards, Business Cards from OPEN®, and Corporate Cards issued directly from American Express in the U.S. Here are the card accounts you can currently access with the app:

As you can see from the screen shots below, the app is very user friendly and captures your account nicely. I like the fact that you can review all your Amex card accounts with one log in. You can just tap on the account you want more details about to take a closer look. The graphics looks really good and it even shows you a picture of each card. You can quickly see when your payment is due which is nice when you have multiple cards.

From this screen shot you can see just how nice it is to get all your important information on one screen. This shows your balance, recent charges, payment date and more. You can check your account for accuracy by looking at your pending charges and your recent transactions. It even allows you to see how many points you have and gives you the option to use your points to pay your bills.

If you need more details about a certain transaction then you can access that information, too. You can get several details about your transactions which will come in handy if something looks unfamiliar. You can organize your transactions by date or dollar amount so you can easily find what you’re looking for.
