American Express Introduces a Bonus Points Firefox Addon

by David on May 3, 2009

American Express is using technology to help its customers find bonus points deals. Called the Bonus Points Mall Add-on, Amex’s new Firefox Add-on puts an icon on the bottom right of your Firefox browser. Whenever you search Google for a product that can be purchases with Amex bonus points, the icon lights up, and a small pop-up displays links for more information on the product. Here are the details from Amex:

The Bonus Points Mall Add-on is a free Firefox 3.0 browser extension, also known as an add-on. Whenever you search for a product on Google or Yahoo, a small non-obtrusive window will pop up alerting you of bonus points opportunities. The pop-up will display the matched keyword and list up to three merchant partners. By clicking on the merchant offer links in the pop-up, you will be taken to the Bonus Points Mall website, where you can earn Membership Rewards bonus points when you purchase the product with your eligible Membership Rewards enrolled American Express Card through the Bonus Points Mall.

That’s an interesting Firefox add-on! As long as you don’t buy something just for the points I can see it being useful.

Thanks for the tip, it was interesting to try out the plugin.

It took me a while to find the page where I could download it, so I’ll pass along the link and save everyone else some time:
